A genuine team effort led by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office resulted in homicides dropping by nearly 30% in 2021.
Members of the Office of the District Attorney team working together with law enforcement partners, local community members, and faith-based organizations successfully reduced the county's 2021 homicides. Despite the continuing restrictions accompanying the COVID pandemic that previously led to increased homicides, 2021 was a turning point thanks to a relentless effort from many public and private resources working on the front lines.
In 2021, we identified and mitigated risk factors at a community level. Community outreach, community policing, and community healing were vital in keeping San Joaquin County families safe.
While our goal is always zero homicides, this reduction is highly encouraging and confirms our investment of time and resources. I look forward to working collaboratively with local law enforcement, community, and non-profit partners as we continue our efforts to reduce violent crime across the board in 2022.
